Learning Objectives

Following this course, the attendee should be able to:

  • Recognize the importance of gender concordance in interaction with transgender patients.
  • Manage the dermatologic concerns of transgender patients resulting from hormone therapy and gender affirmation surgery.
  • Identify and use the preferred pronoun for a transgender patient throughout a clinical encounter.


This hands-on session is a workshop to increase competency in the care of transgender patients. The target audience for this workshop are practicing dermatologists and residents in training. In particular, this workshop will be an exercise in acknowledgement of the importance of gender concordance when treating transgender patients and awareness of their unique concerns. This session will focus on proficiency in assessing the skin concerns of a patient who is transitioning from female to male.
