D002 - CANCELLED: Recent Advances in Skin Biology and Skin Disease
Friday, March 1; 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Following this course, the attendee should be able to:
- Recognize the tremendous advances made in dermatology in the past 5-10 years
- Demonstrate that the advances are reliant on basic science discoveries
- Incorporate these advances into improved patient care
Major scientific advances continually inform our approach to patient care. In this session I will describe some phenomenal and, at times, unimaginable examples of how basic science discoveries are helping us to better understand the mechanisms involved in and the treatment of common and some rare skin diseases. I will describe diseases that, in the past 5-10 years we have come to better understand and will talk about their treatment. I will also describe how the human microbiome may be affecting skin and other human disease. Finally, I will talk about the molecular basis for newer treatments for atopic dermatitis, psoriasis and melanoma.
