Learning Objectives

Following this course, the attendee should be able to:

  • Define artificial intelligence, big data and machine learning.
  • Determine how artificial intelligence is impacting dermatology today and predict how these technologies might change our practice.
  • Identify opportunities to use artificial intelligence in research and clinical care.


There is a lot of excitement about how artificial intelligence (AI) is going to change health care. However, it's difficult to differentiate what's real and important from what's hypothetical and hype. This session will help you understand, and plan, for our future with AI tools. We'll review research that has shown how algorithms can diagnose melanomas better than dermatologists and discuss how AI might access and reduce disparities. We'll imagine and talk about what role we dermatologists will have in a world of AI medicine.
