Learning Objectives

Following this course, the attendee should be able to:

  • Recognize important features from a patient's history and scalp exam to suggest a diagnosis of hair loss
  • Recognize important features of a scalp biopsy
  • Choose appropriate treatments


This session is designed to provide dermatologists and residents with an opportunity to self-assess and advance their current knowledge as it pertains to hair and scalp disorders. Using a series of high yield multiple choice questions together with an audience response system, participants will have the opportunity to explore many aspects of the diagnosis and treatment of non-scarring and scarring alopecias as well as the hair shaft disorders. Broad discussion of cases will be follow each block of questions. This activity has been approved by the American Board of Dermatology (ABD) for up to 20 MOC Component 2 Self-Assessment points.
